The Gift of Arizona Experiences

By LINDSAY FRICKS

If you’ve been following me for a while you know that I emphasize quality time and memorable experiences. Although I love a good material gift (I’m not-so-secretly hoping for a new bag for Christmas), the best gift for me is to spend time making memories with the people I care about most. This week I’m sharing my top ideas on how you can give the gift of an unforgettable Arizona experience this holiday season.

Wine Tour- Did you know there are several great wine tasting areas throughout Arizona? Recently, along with my friends from the board of Fresh Start Women’s Foundation, we boarded a luxury coach that swept us up to D.A. Ranch for a day of wine tasting. This quaint little cabin located less than two hours away from Phoenix and has some of the best vino in the state. Make sure to try the Gertrude and stop by to meet the namesake donkey grazing in the pasture. You can book private transportation for almost any size group through Black & White Limo, a great locally owned company. Or, make it a weekend by staying in nearby Sedona which is only 20 minutes away and has loads of fabulous accommodations and restaurants.

Glamping- I consider myself to be somewhat outdoorsy, but I admit, a toilet is a convenience I rarely like to go without. There are two spots that have been on my wishlist to visit that host in unique accommodations near some of Arizona’s highest rated attractions. First, Under Canvas has a camp near the south rim of the Grand Canyon. The safari style tents, which make me daydream back to our romantic African elopement and honeymoon, are a perfect alternative to the typical hotel stay. Second, Shash Dine B&B located near Page is owned and operated by the local Navajo tribe. In addition to canvas tents they also have covered wagon, small cabin and traditional Navajo hogan accommodations. The B&B is located in close proximity to some of Arizona’s most photographed spots like Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon.

Desert Dining- If heading out of town for the day isn’t a great option, you can get some of that Arizona desert experience without leaving the valley. I’ve been dying to attend an event hosted by Cloth & Flame. They host lavish multi-course culinary experiences in unique locations throughout the valley. Their gorgeous, Instagram worthy tablescapes alone are worth the cost of admission (normally $145 per person). They haven’t posted their 2020 schedule, but they offer gift certificates on their website that can be applied to most of their events. This is 1000% something on my wish list for 2020.

Wilderness Picnic- One of the first day dates Jason planned was a trip up to the Mogollon Rim for a picnic. “The Rim” as we call it is about a two hour drive outside the valley on what I consider one of the most scenic highways in Arizona, if not the whole country. Along the route, we made a quick stop in Payson to stock up on the picnic essentials, charcuterie and of course, wine. After bouncing along the dirt Rim Road we explored a few paths before finding a small pond to enjoy our picnic. We had so much fun enjoying nature and the whole day including gas cost less than $100. It’s been four years and it’s still one of my favorite dates of all time.

Hopefully these sparked some ideas of how you can give the gift of experience and memories to the ones you love most this Holiday Season. Comment below to share your favorite experiences in Arizona.
