The Best of AZ Special Occasion Restaurants

By LINDSAY FRICKS

Last week I took a super sophisticated and in depth (instagram) poll to understand what people wanted to hear more about in 2020. The overwhelming response was people want to hear more about local restaurants, shops and activities. Ask and I shall deliver…please allow me to introduce the first edition of Lindsay’s Lists. This new monthly blog feature will be posted on the second Thursday of every month and will be about sharing the best of the best, in my humble opinion, that Arizona has to offer.

Food is life and this week I’m sharing some of my favorite special occasion restaurants. I’ve been lucky enough to dine at all these fantastic locally owned restaurants in the last couple years. These are handpicked for their unique, one of a kind Arizona only experiences.

Pro tip: If you want to wow your hunny with an amazing meal at one of these spots for Valentine’s Day you better stop what you’re doing and get your reservation right meow…I mean now.

  1. Razz’s Restaurant– Razz’s is sure to be a pleasant surprise in the Central Scottsdale stripmall it resides. Whatever you do, make sure to make a reservation ahead of time for the bar. You’ll get a front seat to all the kitchen action and endless small plates that will go on for as many courses as your tummy can handle. The food is super unique, inventive and decadent. Jason and I powered through seven courses during our first trip to Razz’s…can you do more?
  2. Atlas Bistro– This has been on my must try list for years and I’m so glad we recently did our holiday celebration with my parents here. The restaurant is located in an unassuming strip mall in South Scottsdale attached to a Wine Store. It’s BYOB which is amazing since you can pick up a fabulous bottle at the store and it’s only $15 to open it versus the typical 50% markup of a regular restaurant. The menu is seasonal and changes daily. The three course pre-fixe menu is $65 and is worth every dang penny.
  3. Sel– Located right in Old Town Scottsdale this is a great spot to enjoy a lovely four course pre-fixe menu for any special occasion. A bit on the pricier side of things at $90 per person, but well worth it. I thought the dishes were creative and delicious while being a bit more generous in size than other multi-course meals. They also have yummy craft cocktails that will compliment your special occasion well.
  4. Quiessence at the Farm– Slightly off the beaten path, but worth the drive to South Phoenix. This farm-to-table concept sources much of their menu from their own seasonal harvest. They offer four, five and six course tasting menus ranging from $79-99 per person. I was here for a cocktail and small plates event so I haven’t actually had the opportunity to enjoy the sit down pre-fixe menus yet. I have their extra special eight course brick-oven experience served at an exclusive outdoor table on my list for 2020.
  5. Cafe Monarch– I saved the best for last…also located in Old Town Scottsdale, Cafe Monarch has a special place in my heart since it’s where Jason and I celebrated after our legal wedding ceremony. It is the most romantic restaurant in Arizona. It has won just about every esteemed culinary award possible and for good reason. The four course pre-fixe menus range from $100-$165 per person. It’s expensive…but for the most special occasion it’s worth the splurge to celebrate a big milestone.

I can’t wait for you to try some of these amazing Arizona eateries. Our culinary scene is growing by the day and I just love all the amazing restaurants that provide for a great experience and memories.
