Lindsay’s Lists - COVID-19 Food Edition

By LINDSAY FRICKS

We’ve all learned a lot the last few weeks as we’ve adjusted to our current realities. Part of that learning curve was adjusting to eating every meal at home. Jason and I decided early on that we would alternate every other night ordering from a local restaurant. This is more than we would typically “eat out”, but we really want to make sure our favorite spots survive the pandemic and are still open when we break free.

We’ve always been heavy users of food delivery services like Uber Eats, Postmates, Door Dash and Grub Hub so this wasn’t really a huge adjustment for us. However, it was brought to my attention that these services take a significant cut of the restaurant’s revenue on delivery orders to the tune of nearly 30%. In a time where we are really trying to make sure our dollars go to support our local companies we’ve made a concerted effort to do curbside pickup and only occasionally rely on food delivery. Food for thought as you do your meal planning.

Here are some of the best restaurants that are offering specials and discounts during COVID-19:

Fox Concepts Restaurants which includes fan favorites like Blanco, Flower Child, The Henry, Doughbird, Culinary Dropout, Olive & Ivy, Arrogant Butcher and ZinBurger is offering 35% off your takeout order with code FRC35. This only applies to curbside pickup orders and not delivery. My favorite of this group is Olive & Ivy and Doughbird.

Sumomaya which made my best brunch list is offering a super lucrative deal during this time. It’s called a Dollar for Dollar promotion. Show them your original receipt from your takeout and curbside delivery orders when they reopen and you’ll get a gift certificate for the same amount.

Upward Projects Restaurants which operates Postino Wine Cafe, Windsor, Joyride, Federal Pizza and Churn is offering lots of specials that are regularly updated on their special COVID updates landing page.  This week they offered a $25 dollar bottle of wine and Bruchetta board all day on Monday… This is typically a special reserved for after 8pm on Monday nights for dine in only.

Mastros Restaurants which also includes Ocean Club is offering 10% off take out orders and 15% off gift cards. This is a great special occasion option if you have a birthday or anniversary you’re celebrating during quarantine.

LGO Hospitality which comprises of La Grande Orange Grocery, Ingo’s Tasty Food, Buck & Rider and Chelsea’s kitchen has reduced menu prices by 30% and is offering a 20% gift card bonus (Buy $100, Get $20 free).

Born & Raised Hospitality group who owns several delicious restaurants like Fellow Osteria and Clever Koi are offering 25% off full menu priced options for curb-side pickup.

There are a plethora of great options to choose from for a great dinner at home. Hopefully by the time you’ve exhausted this list the pandemic will be in our rearview mirror and we will be back to dining in public together. Until then, drop a comment below with your favorite takeout spots… we could use some new options to put on our list!
