Lindsay's List: Holiday Gift Ideas

By LINDSAY FRICKS

Gifts are my love language. There’s something exhilarating for me when I find the perfect gift that I know the recipient will adore. My best gift ideas typically come when I’m not looking for any gifts at all. When I see something that screams to me I can’t help myself but to purchase it for someone special. However, every year the pressure and time crunch of the holidays always makes me scramble to grab something generic and last minute on Amazon. So this year I’m committing to making my holiday gifts a little more meaningful so here’s my Lindsay’s List Holiday Gifting 2020 edition:

  1. Charity Donation– This is at the top of my wish list this year for good reason. Many non-profit organizations are struggling to raise enough money to support their programs in the pandemic environment. If there’s a cause that’s near and dear to your loved ones heart, make a donation in their honor. Most charities have a program to let the person know you’ve made a contribution in their name with a nice card. If you’re looking for two very worthy charities, my favorites are The Arizona Pet Project and Fresh Start Women’s Foundation
  2. Local Made Arts & Crafts– Did you know you can search Etsy shops by geographic location? Type in whatever you’re looking for and then you can filter the results to be just items made in Arizona. I love keeping my dollars in the local economy so this feature allows me to find products for sale by local artisans. Some of my favorite Arizona artisans are Caroline Haines Creative , HippieHoppy  and Lace Grace & Peonies. You can also find tons of local made products at retailers like Local Nomad, Border & Brown and Urbana.

3. Locally Made Food & Drinks– We have a plethora of incredible products made right in the great state of Arizona. There’s a fantastic company called The PHX Sampler who delivers locally made food and drinks to your doorstep every Sunday. You can customize your offering or choose to be surprised. We tried this earlier this fall and loved getting some new product. Here’s some other local companies worth considering: Beer Growlers from Greenwood Brewing, cooking oils from Queen Creek Olive Mill or handcrafted chocolates from Noi Cacao.

4. Local Adventures– The gift of quality time with friends and family is something very high on my list. I’ve been swooning over these adorable picnics by My AZ Picnics to enjoy some snacks and beverages together in a beautiful location. Another fun local company I got to experience while in the Scottsdale Leadership Academy was Joyrides AZ. They host golf cart tours in Old Town Scottsdale and even have an Instagram with over 40 grammable sites for the social media addict in your life.

5. Subscription box– When all else fails, there’s a subscription tailored to just about any tastes or interests nowadays. What’s better than getting a gift that keeps giving throughout the year? The company Crate Joy makes it super easy to find the perfect box by pulling together all the subscription options into one site.

Alright, I shared my secrets, so now it’s time to share yours! What’s your go to gift source for the holidays? Are you a last minute Amazon prime shopper or you a proactive shopper who has already checked off all the people on your list?
