Gratitude

By LINDSAY FRICKS

At the beginning of 2019 I started incorporating handwritten thank you notes into my daily morning routine. At first, I set my goal to be 2 cards per day. That doesn’t sound like a lot but it was a struggle. About a week after I started this routine something interesting happened. I got a note back from one of my recipients expressing how important I was to them. Then I received a text thanking me for my card. The next week someone posted on Instagram to share their appreciation for my note. It was incredible that this small daily act nearly immediately increased my feelings of gratitude and happiness.

I’ve since learned that adding this daily act of gratitude literally changed how my brain experienced the world. I had trained it to scan for positivity throughout my daily activities. The more notes I sent the easier it became to find things to write to people about. This directly translated into the amount of appreciation I received in return which directly impacted how happy, supported and content I felt.

I share this with you on Thanksgiving to emphasize how gratitude isn’t about one day to share all we are thankful for. It’s a daily practice. If you’re reading this, you already know how much of a blessing you are in my life. I am beyond grateful for the amount of love, support and encouragement you’ve provided me as I’ve grown professionally and personally this year.

I hope you have a blessed holiday! Salud from Barcelona!
