Where are you from and what brought you to Arizona? I’m from Peosta, Iowa and I moved to Arizona with my corporate America job in 2012 working in the manufacturing & solar industry. I moved to Arizona from Boston and was so tired of high rent that I bought a house immediately when I got here at 24 years-old.
What’s your hidden talent or random unknown fact about you? Random unknown fact is that I am primarily vegetarian (I eat eggs and will eat whatever you serve me if I come to your house!). I turned vegan for a year after I hosted clients at a top seafood/steakhouse in AZ and their culture prevented them from eating meat. The restaurant had nothing for them, and it bothered me so much that the next day I went completely vegan in order to understand what it was like for people who didn’t/couldn’t eat meat or dairy.
What are 3 items you can’t live without? My essential oils (especially face oils), my car, a notebook.
Describe your dream home: My dream home is Bavarian-style, with a backyard full of green grass and mature trees that you can view out of the wall of windows at the back of the house. Wood floors, big kitchen opening to a living space, sitting on an acre of land minimum. It is close to a beautiful and private walking/running path. It has an outdoor shower and a hot tub.
What’s your superpower? My superpower is being a visionary. I am an ideas person, and then I have an incredible team of people – including my significant other – who helps me bring the dream into reality.
What’s your business? I own Greenwood Brewing, a woman-owned brewing company based in downtown Phoenix, AZ!
What makes you and your business different? I started the business because I felt like women weren’t represented well in the brewing industry. At Greenwood Brewing we believe in the power of the purposeful pint and the strong conversations that are often shared over a cold brew with a friend. We are creating our space in Downtown Phoenix to support that theory, and provide a space for people to feel empowered, confident and included.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? “Well then, it’s probably time to quit your job.” – this was from my Mom even though I knew that I wouldn’t have a paycheck until we opened the brewery. This was also two years ago. My advice is to tune in, trust your intuition, and start now.
What community organization are you passionate about and why? I volunteer for Fresh Start Women’s Foundation, and I am passionate about helping women get their fresh start in life. We support women to gain a fresh start where their life was previously challenging: we support women suffering with domestic violence in the home, moving through unemployment, single mothers, divorce, and so much more.
How can people support your business or community organizations? People can come visit us! We open on July 18th to the public. Please come see us and try some of our newest brews! 922 N 5th St. Phoenix, AZ 85004
