Philanthropy and Community Involvement

By LINDSAY FRICKS

I’ve always had a passion for philanthropy and community involvement. I jump at the chance to work at a food bank event or attend fancy charity galas. For me, doing good and serving others has been a core value since I was very young.

In college at the University of Arizona, I was a Big Sister through the Big Sisters Big Brothers program. I was matched to a 9 year old girl named Bridget. We went to the movies, out to eat, and hung out at my house watching TV and doing makeovers. She had a very unstable home life, no father figure and an emotionally challenged mother and sister. She was bullied at school for wearing glasses and being poor. I even once had to call Child Protective Services because her sister beat her up. It was horrible. I know I was able to help just a little, but honestly it wasn’t ever enough. When I left the program and Bridget at graduation it was tough, but I was grateful to have made an impact on her life.

After college and during my years in Corporate America, my contributions to the community were mostly monetary as my time was very limited. It left me yearning for the type of connection I had to the community as when I was in Tucson spending time as a Big Sister to Bridget. However, over the years my interests and passions had developed and I found myself drawn to causes that supported Women and Animals. I now spend my time and money supporting two great organizations that do amazing things for the community in the Greater Phoenix areas. Today I want to introduce you to two organizations I am very passionate and involved with.

Lindsay and Cat

Arizona Pet Project- https://azpetproject.org/

Arizona Pet Project is a unique Animal Welfare program that focuses on the human needs in pet ownership. Their mission is to prevent animal homelessness by targeting the core issues that lead to someone surrendering or abandoning their animals. Often, people take their pets to the shelter as a last resort when they can’t afford veterinary care, food or even pet deposits associated with moving. APP runs a shelter intervention program to find an alternative that keeps the animal and family together at home by providing affordable services, resources or financial support. Another need in our county is spay and neutering since we have one of the worst over populations in the country. I recently started volunteering my time for the mobile spay and neuter clinics.

Arizona Pet Project’s next big event is called SNIFF! This event funds the free spay and neuter clinics hosted throughout Maricopa county. I invite you to join Jason and me as we sip, shop, socialize and save lives. Tickets can be purchased here: https://azpetproject.org/event/sniff/

Fresh Start Women’s Foundation- https://www.freshstartwomen.org/

Fresh Start Women’s Foundation mission is to provide education, resources and support for women to positively transform their lives and strengthen our community. A lot of the women we serve are emerging from crisis situations and just need a little help to get back on their feet. One of the shocking facts I learned was that the number one leading cause of women returning to abusive situations is because they need shelter. As a Realtor this hits home for me. Last year our resource center had over 21,000 visits from women in need.

I serve on the Auxiliary Board for Fresh Start and we are hosting a wonderful luncheon event called Wine, Women and Shoes on September 21st. . Ladies, please join me to sip, shop and watch a fashion show in support of this wonderful organization. Purchase your tickets soon because we are almost sold out: https://www.winewomenandshoes.com/event/freshstart/

I know many of you have supported me by purchasing tickets to events, donating goods or services for silent actions and participating in my fundraisers. I can’t tell you how much it means to me. If you’d like me to support a cause that’s near and dear to your heart please don’t hesitate to reach out.
